If you live in San Francisco or Seattle a good wet weather tire might be a better choice. If you live in a city that gets an amount of snow in the winter months you may want to get what is generally known as an All Season tire. one that works well in most driving conditions. dry pavement. wet or even snow.
If that is the case. how then do you determine which tires are the best or at least the best for your particular need? Not everyone`s tires needs are the same. And if we can break down the different needs. we can better identify a better type of tire to meet the needs an individual has.
A Carlisle ATV tire is made based on three main dimensions: The first being the height of the tire. the second its width across the tread and finally its height or size. To describe with an example. we can consider a 21 x 6 -15 sized tire. This would be 21 inches tall. 6 inches wide and would be mounted on to a wheel which is 15 inches tall. There are specific dimensions that suit specific activities. For instance. a 30 x 10-12 would be the ideal size for mud tires where as a 18 x 10-8 would be perfect for racing. The size of the ATV tires used by your present vehicle can be easily found. The sizes are indicated clearly on the side of the tire.
If you live in a place like Denver where you are sure to see snow in the winter. you may want to opt for the crossover or all-terrain type tires. which will be a bit more aggressive tread pattern enabling you to have a better grip on snowy streets and travel the back country mountain roads a bit more securely. Winter Mud & Snow tires fall primarily into the all-terrain category of tires. I am betting that more people in the eastern United States are wishing they had a better all-terrain tire this year with the heavy snow that has pummeled them this winter.
The oldest and one of the most reliable tire chains are ladder chains. These work by going over the tire`s treads directly. thus they fit very securely to it. On the other hand. it does not cover all parts of the tire. so some parts may still come into contact with the wet and slippery road. Consider this type if you plan to only drive short distances during the winter.
